depression

the ball keeps on rolling
when the floor is uneven
the light blinds your eyes
from the filaments—beware!
the ground sinks beneath you
when the weight gets too heavy
the air matters most
when it is no longer there

the game can’t be won
when the rules are abandoned
the hands lose their softness
when you spend years holding space
the heart will stop
when hope dies just like the sunlight
the memory of joy is
all that remains of some place
